The Wasco County Planning Department currently is involved in two plan evaluations that will help inform new Natural Hazard policies and implementation strategies.

The Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan update helps communities identify local policies and actions that can be implemented over the long term to reduce the impact of future losses from hazards.  This is a joint effort to assess risks and form mitigation strategies for Wasco County, led by Emergency Management and Planning.  Other partners include School Districts, Fire Districts, Public Works, the Soil and Water Conservation District, The Dalles, MCCOG, Oregon Department of Forestry, and more.

Final drafts of several sections are available for your review.  Click here more information about the Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan.

The Community Planning Assistance for Wildfire is another strategic planning process currently underway that will give us some strategies for planning for wildfire in Wasco County.  To learn more about the Community Planning Assistance for Wildfire program click here.

Both of these planning process will be complete by the end of 2018.  The Wasco County 2040 work plan has slated updates to the Natural Hazards goal in early 2020.  The goals and policies related to Natural Hazards will be informed and reflect many recommended strategies that have come out of both these planning processes.

It is also the intention of the Wasco County Planning Department to update the Community Wildfire Protection Plan with new data and recommendations for mitigated wildfire risk.
