This work begins in 2023.
During Wasco County 2040, community members asked staff to provide a variety of land use planning solutions for economic development and housing. One solution was to explore potential permitting for Destination Resorts. In 2020, Wasco County adopted the required eligibility map for Destination Resorts based on state mandated eligibility criteria.
Destination resorts are defined as self-contained developments providing visitor-oriented accomodations and developed recreational facilities in a setting with high natural amenities. Examples include Sunriver in Deschutes County and Brasada Ranch in Crook County.
This work task will include mandatory criteria and regulation resulting from the adoption of the Destination Resort Eligibility map during Wasco County 2040. We anticipate continuing the conversation to focus on building out criteria that will address community concerns over water access and availability and fire risk.
